Times Are Tough! Your Wife Will Be Forced Into Prostitution
Posted December 02, 2008 by

I'm not sure why the media loves economic fear stories so much. Why do we need stories like "Tough times nearly cost baby his life" (a mom gives her baby too much water and blames the economy) playing on the radio on the way to work? What does it accomplish? I'm pretty sure it's just a ratings ploy feeding on mankind's own perverse fascination with things "going to hell in a handbasket"...and the fear that people will be forced to prostitute their families to roving biker gangs in exchange for food is always on the back burner.
Whatever the reason, the latest piece of quality journalism from ABC News, Economic Tough Times Hit Nevada Brothel, doesn't disappoint. Coming hot on the stiletto heels of last summer's "Nevada brothels hit hard by gas prices", reporter Neal Karlinksy goes deep inside Mustang Ranch to give us "an economics lesson from women who know a thing or two about supply and demand." Apparently we can't trust those ivory tower economists to give us the real ground truth and apparently ABC reporters spend an unusually large amount of time hanging out around whorehouses.
The story follows a young, newly-recruited prostitute as she makes her way to Nevada, with the implication that she was forced into it by an ailing economy:
A woman who had just scored a precious high-paying job in the midst of a disastrous economy was willing to fly in from out of town to take it.
...
"I'm nervous, you know," said Kimberly, who would be working as a prostitute for the first time.
...
Kimberly's explanation for getting into the business is simple. Times are tough, so tough she says she couldn't find any other way to make a living.
Nothing like a woman having sex against her will to grab your attention! Just remember, this is hard hitting economic research here. And times are tough. Let's get some more insight from brothel owner "Madam Susan" who is probably also a noted economist (just guessing):
"I have more ladies coming in now than I ever did before because of the economic times," she said. "They're all coming in. (It's) the only way to make some decent money in this time and age.
That's right folks, ALL OF THE LADIES ARE COMING IN! Because times are tough! If you know a lady, you'd better go check on her because she might already be turning tricks in Nevada! In case you missed the implication that your wife or mother might be the next to go, ABC is more than happy to clear things up:
"Economy is hard, times are hard and when times are hard, women are stronger of the group, and will do anything necessary to make sure the children are taken care of and our husbands, if necessary," she said.
Yep YOUR wife might be in on this whole thing. Economy is hard people; economy is hard indeed.
The irony for Austin is that while the money is drying up, more women are applying for jobs. "And the age group is going older," she said. "I had a 72-year-old apply for a job."
Hell, that could be your grandma! Did we mention times are tough?
We're beating a dead horse here and there really isn't much more to this story than watching poor Kimberly pick up her supply of lube and antiseptic crotch-wipes from the brothel dispensary. But no good prostitution story is complete without some gratuitous shots of hookers posed on the beds where they do their business and luckily ABC has obliged...so we'll leave you with those.
