Martial Law Begins October 1st!

Normally we wouldn't link to a Digg post and its endless stream of retarded comments from unemployed teenagers. But this one is particularly ripe for the picking.
Somehow they've deduced from this Army Times article that MARTIAL LAW IS BEGINING OCT. 1st. In fact, NORTHCOM, the U.S. Northern Command, is going to start having a dedicated brigade available to respond to emergencies and disasters. The unit's stint "will take place during the so-called dwell time a unit gets to reset and regenerate after a deployment."
The command is at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo., but the soldiers with 1st BCT, who returned in April after 15 months in Iraq, will operate out of their home post at Fort Stewart, Ga., where they’ll be able to go to school, spend time with their families and train for their new homeland mission as well as the counterinsurgency mission in the war zones.
Sounds like martial law to me! The Digg crew wholeheartedly agrees. Here are some choice comments on the news story, archived here for posterity:

Remember we must use nonviolent civil disobedience as a means of stopping them. We cannot be the aggressors. Preemption is wrong. They are desperate. Keep fighting using words and ideas. We cannot win this militarily. Remember Nazi Germany. Who won the war really? Indeed. The Nazi influence in our government is undeniable, although I thought it the most absurd thing I had ever heard at first. Of course, I was programmed to have this reaction. Oh ***** that, if soldiers end up on the street trying that ***** we will use numbers to defeat them.
Holy god, these people are preparing for a civil war or something. I don't know how one brigade of soldiers would go about controlling the entire United States, and never mind the fact that we've had countless military forces of all kinds stationed inside the United States ever since the military was formed. This is not new; DoD forces are and have been allowed to support civil authorities during emergencies when the President deems it necessary. Examples include the L.A. riots and Hurricane Katrina. If anything, having a dedicated and trained force will help avoid some of the miscommunications and blundering that occurred during Katrina when a hodgepodge of military units tried to interface with the civilian relief effort.
But these Diggers have little education, little foresight and perspective, and wildy overactive paranoid imaginations. When you spend most of your time locked away in a basement sharpening the katana swords you bought on QVC (for defense) I guess you need that last one to give your life meaning.
